Nokia X6 Review

The Goods
+ Has a better body shape when compared to the cheaper Nokia XpressMusic 5800.
      + It's sleeker than XM5800.
+ 16 GB of built-in Mass Memory is very handy.
+ Pictures from the 5 Mega Pixel Camera included with
~ Dedicated camera key, Carl Zeiss optics, Auto focus, 4x zoom, Dual LED flash, etc. are not bad at all.
+ Built-in A-GPS receiver with the Ovi Maps along with free lifetime Navigation works like a charm.
+ The capacitive touch screen (being Nokia's first with that technology) is quite responsive.
+ Free inventive applications from the Ovi Store like
~ Level Touch, Angle Meter, Speedometer, SymaDial, Mobile ESPN, etc. are nice value-adds.
+ Two perfectly positioned stereo speakers on the long side of the phone are effective.
+ It can work with EGPRS, UMTS (3G) and HSDPA (3.5G) network operations.
+ WLAN (Wi-Fi) and Bluetooth connectivity are essential wireless connection choices that are available.
+ With the front-side camera, video calls are possible. [Need 3G Data Plan]
+ The multifunction Rocker switch is a good one too.
+ Ovi Store for free songs download helps music buffs.

The Not so Goods
      - Orientation sensor works only when you tilt towards left. They could make it work in all 4 sides.
      - The Symbian OS probably needs a big make-over. Others on the market are far ahead with performance as well as glittery features.
      - The body shape still lacks a good hold when we are talking. There is a constant fear of when it might pop out of hand and crash land on the floor shattering my INR 15,200. The fear is even more when you use the Camera that is when you also have to avoid touching the screen area and hold the phone only by its sides! You would be better off adding a wrist-strap, but the rear-cover that is not too tight at that end is the only arrest for the wrist-strap, so again, watch-out, the wrist-strap might slip out any moment and the phone could have a fall! [My old Nokia 3110 Classic had no problem whatsoever on this aspect due to its flat sides and rubber-base back cover. But I guess all the new breed phones and smart phones (including iPhone?) now are coming with such rounded sides of the body that lacks grip while holding. No wonder this created a big market for the leather and rexine pouches for phones with built-in catch and flip cover.]
      - Occasionally, after the use of some of the features or applications (e.g. Camera, Bright Light Touch) the phone warms up considerably and then battery drains faster than usual. [Note, this does not happen all the time. It appears as though, sometimes,  some background processes related to those features / applications are not cleaned up properly after we quit, and they continue to consume and drain battery power. I even upgraded to the latest firmware recently and expected this to have got fixed. But this problem still remains.]

Background
I am not sure where the Nokia X6s are currently on the market. I still see them at the retailers and malls. But the lack of promotional effort in the media is a bit puzzling. Not sure whether this model is a failure from Nokia, and whether at all there is a big user base for this phone out there. But this is my Review about this good phone after practical usage of more than 6 months now.

I purchased my X6 right after its launch in May last year. I negotiated hard at quite a few outlets and malls, but finally got a good price deal (INR 15,200) from Univercell, added with a bumper 0% interest 6-month EMI offer from HDFC Bank Credit Cards that they were running at that time. So I did not have to pay up front. Plus, it was a good deal due to the accessories it came with: A nicely designed, good quality Car Holder and a Car Charger as well. I was keen to have both of them, considering the regular travel we do by car. In addition to all that, they also gave us a free Gold Coin!

After a lot of cautious, slow, careful and thoughtful planning about whether to go for an Upgrade at all from my old Nokia 3110 Classic, actually I had almost decided to go for the XpressMusic 5800, but, changed the decision at last moment, stretching up my budget to get the just launched X6. I was attracted by the host of features it offered.
