Caught Special - 6

Once in a while I get the opportunity to click something special. An attractive frame of scenery, a rare moment of incident or action, an unusual view of a common perspective, a snap of poetic feel and depth, a picture-perfect still, or even an impressive blend of colors with a rustic or a glossy finish.

This is a series posting such pictures I captured. The pictures are original and without any post-processing.  You can also see my thoughts about the picture and the camera used for snapping.

Special thoughts: This was at Nandi Hills near Bangalore. People, including us, had big trouble from a lot of monkeys over there while eating the lunch that was carried along. The monkeys were very courageous and robbed or snatched away food and snacks from everyone around there. But, a littler later, we saw those monkeys in a completely different setting. There was this small, almost cantilevered roof-top projecting over the deep valley beneath. Monkeys were having a great afternoon nap under tree-shades on top of it, without worrying about the deep valley below and the height on which they were actually lying! Take a look.

Date: 23/Jul/2006 ~~ Camera: Konica Minolta, Model DiMAGE X50

3:09 PM - Two monkeys happily sleeping off on the roof over-looking the valley.
.
3:09 PM - Another pair on the other side of the same roof

3:10 PM - A long-shot of the same second pair.

3:11 PM - Look at these four families of monkeys on another side of that roof. In each family, while the head took a nap, another family member sat next, picking lice!

Secunderabad to Aurangabad

Secunderabad. Sarojini Devi road. Taj Mahal Hotel. It was about 10 AM when my senior Regional Sales Manager got the 4 carton boxes containing test equipment unloaded from his hired Ambassador car in the parking lot. I had instructions to leave from Secunderabad directly to Aurangabad that evening, to deliver those boxes to Bajaj Auto Ltd., to immediately complete the installation & training for the engineers, and to collect the payment also. There was a bit of urgency from the customer side too and so I had to start immediately. The train from Secunderabad leaves at about 6 PM in the evening and I only had about 7 hours to start not just thinking about, but to execute the travel plan itself.

I was working in Bangalore at that time, and was taking care of technical support for electronics test equipment customers in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala full-time, and Maharashtra part-time. When this instruction to go to Aurangabad urgently was given to me, I was already on a trip to Hyderabad for the prior 2-3 days, visiting different customers on service calls or annual maintenance visits etc.

Special thoughts: These pictures around Cauvery river were taken on an early morning during a resort stay in Srirangapatna. We stayed in a room close to the river and I could set different frames to capture quite a few different snaps from our balcony. Also, as you can see, within a span of about an hour, changes in natural light and the foggy conditions around gave me the opportunity to grab different kinds of images. (Click on the images to see in full size).

6:59 AM - Sun is just showing up. Foggy conditions. Glistening water. Distant coconut trees in silhouette.
This is the place. Pictures below are sub-frames focusing a portion or part seen in this one.

7:53 AM - More fog. More shine on water. See the bird balancing in air?

7:56 AM - A professional photographer under the river-side tree in silhouette, closing-up on some fish.

7:57 AM - A slightly different frame allowing lesser light into my camera. He is still busy.

8:01 AM - Fog clearing up. Beams of sunlight. The photographer seems to be ready to leave now.

8:05 AM - There come the fishermen, starting their day on their coracles, seen in a nice silhouette.

8:06 AM - The fishermen getting out to cross a rocky pass. Close-up frame with stunning glisten of water.

Escape from the WTC crash

9/11 or September-11, 2001: One of the worst terror attacks of the world that destroyed the Twin Towers in New York and along with it thousands of people, property and economy. I was actually getting ready for my first ever travel to the US on 17-Sep., 2001 and this preceded incident made my planning quite painful. (Finally though I did manage to travel on that day).

But more than those, a friend of mine happened to have been inside the WTC at the time of the crash, yes, and when I came to know the details of his narrow escape from there - it was terrific, rattling, and spine-chilling.

I quote below, verbatim, the text from the email that he sent to me on the very next day of the devastating incident in which he had narrated his experience. Read on...
