Type of place: Rocky hill, Hindu temple.

We visited last on: 27/Mar/05, Sun

Suitable for: A day trip.

Best seasons to visit: Summer may be very hot, and heavy rainy season may not be suitable.

Distances
      * 47.9 KM from City Railway Station via Tumkur Road (NH4/AH47) and Gundenahalli.
      * 60.2 KM from Central Silk Board via Sankey Road, Tumkur Road (NH4/AH47) and Gundenahalli.

Route maps on Google
      * From City Railway Station: Click Here.
      * From Central Silk Board, Hosur Road: Click Here.

Timings: Open only during daylight timings.

Weekly off: Kanva: Typically none.

Food
      * Just after Himalaya Drug Company on the left on Nelamangala Expressway, is Agarwal Bhawan.
      * Better to carry food along, stop under one of the roadside tree shade and eat.
      * There are no good food joints at the location of the hills except for some local small restaurants.

Specialties
      * The drive from Bangalore is nice on the highway up to Gundenahalli.
      * The last 7 KM after you turn left at Gundenahalli is a single track road.
      * Shivaganga is a small village / town. A trip on a normal day can be a peaceful visit.
      * There are multiple temples to visit as you climb up the hills.
      * Climb to the very top of the hills is tough; you can decide at what point you want to turn back.
      * There is a big stepped water tank / pond at the foot hills, opposite to the hills.

Travel Tips
      * If you are there on a day there are not many visitors around, just make sure you are safe.
      * As you climb higher, steps are very small and without proper side railings to hold; watch-out.
      * Many people climb up to the very top of the hills; it is tough; could be adventurous beyond a point.
      * Mid-day could be hot, so carry your caps; it could be windy, so be careful with umbrellas.
      * There are monkeys on the hills, so take care when you eat your snacks..
      * Do not forget to carry your stock of juices and drinking water, you will need lots of it.

Note: This is a series where I post details and tips about some day-trip locations around Bangalore. You would note that, the date of our visit to some of these places was quite some time back, so some of the detail need not be currently valid. However, I think the major part of the information will still be useful to readers. Do check around by phone or other means about these places to know the latest details and then make your plan. Enjoy your travel. Have fun.
