Nokia X6 Review

The Goods
      + Has a better body shape when compared to the cheaper Nokia XpressMusic 5800.
      + It's sleeker than XM5800.
      + 16 GB of built-in Mass Memory is very handy.
      + Pictures from the 5 Mega Pixel Camera included with
                ~ Dedicated camera key, Carl Zeiss optics, Auto focus, 4x zoom, Dual LED flash, etc. are not bad at all.
      + Built-in A-GPS receiver with the Ovi Maps along with free lifetime Navigation works like a charm.
      + The capacitive touch screen (being Nokia's first with that technology) is quite responsive.
      + Free inventive applications from the Ovi Store like
                ~ Level Touch, Angle Meter, Speedometer, SymaDial, Mobile ESPN, etc. are nice value-adds.
      + Two perfectly positioned stereo speakers on the long side of the phone are effective.
      + It can work with EGPRS, UMTS (3G) and HSDPA (3.5G) network operations.
      + WLAN (Wi-Fi) and Bluetooth connectivity are essential wireless connection choices that are available.
      + With the front-side camera, video calls are possible. [Need 3G Data Plan]
      + The multifunction Rocker switch is a good one too.

Amazing Honey Bees

It was a fine December evening at about 5:30 PM when we surprisingly spotted four, just four, honeybees suddenly wandering near our balcony. Our flat is on the 6th level on a 10-level apartment building. The decorative vertical columns and horizontal beams forming the facade of our apartment seem to have attracted those four bees. They buzzed and hovered around the columns and beams. They never even accidentally strayed on to the plants and flowers we had in our mini balcony garden. We became quite inquisitive about the visitors at our balcony - why were they roaming in our balcony surroundings all of a sudden, and what were they up to?

The mystery unravelled quickly, within 5 minutes. Not sure how their so reliable messaging system works, but what poured in at the scene within moments were thousands, may be 10s of thousands, of honey bees! Noise. Unbearably loud buzzing noise. Gosh, where did they all swarm so magically from? How did they get the signal from the four bees which came initially? Amazing.

The bird that...

When I got into the car in the parking lot at Jayanagar 4th block Shopping Complex, I had just then returned the blue colored love bird back to the shop-keeper, free-of-charge. The small portable cage was lying beside me on the front-seat, empty. I could still hear the chirpy twitters of the bird deep in my ears.

As I quietly drove on the long road towards my home, I looked into the rear-view mirror. My mind rolled 18 months backwards...

The previous year's summer in May, we suddenly thought of getting Love Birds for our home. Our 8.5 year old son who was in vacation just after completing his 3rd standard, instantly latched on to it and pressed hard to get them immediately. We often stop by the birds shops in the Shopping Complex in Jayanagar 4th block every time we go, and so, within a matter of few days we got a pair of birds from there.

We picked two very good looking birds. A handsome light blue colored male and a beautiful light yellow colored female. We bought them in a small portable cage. The cage was house-shaped, made of wooden square rod frames fitted with steel-wire grills all around. There was a small door in the front to access inside. It had two steel-rings to hold cups with water and food. It also had a narrow swing hanging from the top for the birds to play on. The pull-out tin-sheet tray at the bottom allowed little bit of easy cleaning.

Yelagiri Trip

We did this 1 night, 2 days, road trip to Yelagiri on January 2 & 3, 2011.

Distance
Bangalore (Bommanahalli) to Yelagiri is about 160 KM. The drive should take about 2 hours 45 min. to 3 hours.

Route Map

Route
     - Go up to Krishnagiri, turn left towards Chennai. [Adyar Ananda Bhavan (A2B) is a good eating stop about 25 KM after Hosur]
     - About 5 KM before Vaniyambadi, turn right towards Tirupathur road. Note that you have to exit from the Highway on your left, take a u-turn, and then pass under the Highway to go towards Tirupathur.
     - Within a few minutes of drive, you will start seeing the hills on your left.
     - After about 7 KM from exiting the Highway, at a place called Ponneri, look for the sign to turn left to Yelagiri hills.
     - Turn left, and within 2 KM you will be at the foothills.
     - The climb on the hills is about 10 KM that includes 14 hairpin bends, which are very nicely named after various tamil poets and patrons like Avvaiyar, Adhiyaman, Kabilan, Pari, Ori, and so on.
